The short version: We use your information to run Cook With Me. We don't sell it, and we don't use it for advertising. Here's everything in plain language.
What We Collect
When you use Cook With Me, we collect:
- Your email address — used to create and manage your account.
- Your household preferences — family size, dietary restrictions, and cooking preferences you set in your profile.
- Your recipes — recipes you create, import, or customize within the app.
- Your cooking history — which recipes you've cooked, your ratings, and notes you leave after a session.
- Images you share — recipe screenshots you import, and photos you take of your fridge, pantry, or ingredients, are processed to extract recipes and identify what you have. We don't keep these photos — once they're processed, they're gone.
- Your voice — never. Voice commands in cooking mode are recognized entirely on your phone. No audio is recorded, stored, or sent to our servers — or anywhere else.
- Basic usage data — request logs (including IP address and browser type) for debugging and security purposes; how many AI requests you've made for rate limiting.
How We Use It
We use your information to:
- Run the app — suggest meals, save your recipes, guide you through cooking, and remember how you made recipes your own.
- Improve meal suggestions — your cooking history is shared with our AI so it can suggest meals you'll actually want to make.
- Extract recipes — when you import from a URL or screenshot, we send that content to our AI for structured extraction.
- Protect the service — rate limiting prevents abuse; logs help us debug problems.
What we send to Anthropic (our AI provider):When you request meal suggestions, we send your household preferences and a summary of your cooking history. When you import a recipe, we send the recipe text or image. When you scan your kitchen, we send the photo so the AI can identify your ingredients. We do not send your name or email address to Anthropic. Per Anthropic's terms of service, they do not train their AI models on API requests.
What We Don't Do
We do not:
- Sell your data to anyone
- Use your data for advertising
- Share your data with third parties beyond what's necessary to run the service
- Train AI models on your content
Third-Party Services
Cook With Me runs on these services, each with their own privacy policy:
- Anthropic — powers meal suggestions and recipe extraction (Claude AI)
- Supabase — stores your account, preferences, recipes, and cooking history (servers in the US)
- Vercel — hosts the app and handles web traffic
- Apple — processes payments for Premium subscriptions (we never see your payment details)
- RevenueCat — tells us whether your Premium subscription is active
Your Rights
You can:
- Access your data — everything you've saved is visible in the app
- Update your preferences — anytime from your profile page
- Delete your account — anytime, right in the app from Settings. Your account and all associated data are removed within 30 days

Data Retention
- Active accounts: we keep your data as long as your account is active
- Deleted accounts: data is removed within 30 days of deletion
- Usage logs: kept for up to 90 days for debugging, then deleted
Children
Cook With Me is intended for users 13 and older. Users under 13 may not create accounts. If we learn we've collected information from a child under 13, we'll delete it promptly. If you believe we have collected such information, please contact us immediately.
Changes to This Policy
If we make significant changes to how we handle your data, we'll let you know by email. Continued use of Cook With Me after changes are posted means you accept the updated policy.
